- What to Expect
Right now, you've probably got a lot on your mind. One thing you can be sure of is that you and your baby are in expert, caring hands. Here's some basic information for you to review as you await your delivery. You can also pass this information on to friends and family who may want to share in your big day.
How do I get to Middlesex Hospital?
Middlesex Hospital28 Crescent Street
Middletown, CT 06457
Phone: (860) 343-4660
Directions
Where do I park when I arrive?
If you are arriving between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. you may enter through the main lobby of the Hospital. We recommend that you park in the Hospital's visitor parking area, on your right as you drive toward the lobby, or you may park on Crescent Street (2–hour limit). If you are arriving after 8:00 p.m. please use the Emergency Department entrance and parking area – the security staff will direct you.
What are the visiting hours at the Pregnancy & Birth Center?
During labor, you decide who will be with you to share your birth experience. After the baby is born the most important thing for you to remember is your need for rest and time to learn about the care of your new infant.
Friends and family who have a cold, flu, or other viral infection are asked to refrain from visiting. Anyone who may have had recent exposure to chicken pox may not visit. Visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
How do I get information about family and friends at the Pregnancy & Birth Center?
If you would like to contact a patient at the Pregnancy & Birth Center, please call (860) 344–6000 and you will be connected to the room directly. Information such as if the baby is a boy or girl, or how much they weigh must be given out by the parents, unless they request otherwise. We always respect the privacy of each family and will only release information if they have requested us to do so. Most parents want the honor of making such important announcements.
Who will take care of me in the Hospital?
At the Pregnancy & Birth center, our Obstetrical Team consists of highly-trained healthcare professionals, including:
- Physicians

- Obstetrical Technicians
- Patient Service Associates
- Unit Secretaries
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioners
- Physician Assistants

Special Care Nursery
An on–site Level II neonatal intensive care nursery, or Special Care Nursery, enables us to care for your infant's needs beyond that of a Level I nursery, which deals with healthy babies only. We have pediatric staff available 24 hours, 7 days a week, who are highly trained in the care of sick newborns. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are available to answer your questions and care for your newborn's need as he or she transitions to life “outside.” Infants are admitted to the Special Care nursery for many reasons. Some may stay for an initial observation time lasting an hour or two; others may need to stay longer. We have family rooms that will accommodate you and your support person to stay overnight if your baby needs to stay longer in the Hospital.
