Going Home

When it is time to go home with your new infant you will want to remember a few basics. We'll provide you with information you will need to know in order to care for yourself and your baby. You may call us at (860)344-6320, any time of day or night if you have any questions.

Going Home Check List

  • Clothes for Mom, remember a comfortable pair of shoes as her feet may be a bit swollen.
  • A simply adorable outfit for Baby (remember to ask for pictures to be taken).
  • Car Seat … they won't let us leave without it.
  • Camera … must have pictures of Baby's first ride in the car.
  • In the cooler weather, remember blankets, buntings, etc.
  • Sometimes it is helpful to bring things home the day before to lessen the load on day of discharge.
  • And remember to have everything set for when Mom comes home, place for Baby to sleep, clean house, and the laundry put away.

Unfortunately, we cannot teach everything you need to know about parenting, but we do hope we can give you some good resources in addition to your physician to help answer questions.

Homecare

If you and your nurses and physicians decide you could you some extra help after you get home, particularly with breastfeeding, we will make a homecare referral. Middlesex Hospital offers homecare services, and there are VNA services throughout Middlesex County from which you may choose.

Car Seat Safety

It is CT state law that when traveling in a car every infant is secured in a car seat. There are many models and types of seats and each one comes with specific instructions for installation and safe use. We recommend that you thoroughly review these instructions and install the car seat long before you come in to have the baby. Call (860)594-2173 for more information about car seat safety checks near you.
