- Cardiac Scans
A cardiac scan usually involves an isotope injection or IV followed by one or two 30-minute scans under a gamma camera.
Before a cardiac scan: You may be asked to fast (avoid food and/or water).
This study may also check the condition of the heart’s arteries, by taking scans of the heart at rest and in response to physical stress (created by exercising on a treadmill or taking medication).
