Shorline Center Hosts Talk on Sports Injuries

Essex, Ct. — A two-part presentation on sports injuries, entitled “Medical Management of Concussions” and “Get the Jump on Healthy Knees” will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center, 260 Westbrook Road, in Essex.

 

Guest speakers will be Adam Perrin, MD, a board-certified sports and family medicine physician; and Linda Talbott, MS, PT, CSCS, a physical therapist with Middlesex Hospital Rehabilitation and Hand Therapy.

 

Dr. Perrin, a physician with Middlesex Health System Primary Care’s Old Saybrook Family Practice offices, has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine and serves as the team physician for the Haddam-Killingworth High School football team. Ms. Talbott has over 30 years of physical therapy experience and specializes in orthopedic and sports injuries.

 

Ms. Talbott’s talk will provide information on how strength and jump training may help to reduce the incidence of knee ligament injuries, especially in the female athlete. Dr. Perrin will address the latest evidence-based treatment of concussions in sports. The presentations are intended primarily for athletic coaches, physical education teachers, parents and athletes, but all are welcome.
